This article is being written to kick off a series of posts on how law firms should go about choosing a marketing company and how they can grow their firm the right way. I considered it important to write on this topic as there are plenty of fraudster scumbags “marketing agencies” that like to claim that they will help you to grow your practice. Quite often, however these companies will leave you asking for spare change like this poor guy:
While your competitors, who go about it the “right way,” wind up looking like this fine chap:
If you prefer to look like the latter, as opposed to the former, then my upcoming articles will provide tips on how to build a sustainable practice. If, on the other hand, you are opposed to prosperity, then you probably don’t need to read any further. Assuming you want to read on….it’s time to get to it.
I’m going to dive into a number of topics over my coming articles. Issues which I will be going over include:
- Choosing a company which focuses on building a web presence which you own and which will focus on the right things
- The need to build out your Google business profile
- The need to avoid companies which use pay-per-click
- The importance of a proper blogging and content strategy
- Why servicing your current clients is the best form of lawyer marketing
There are several reasons why I’m diving into these particular topics. First, most “agencies” don’t bring any expertise when it comes to how one should properly grow their law firm. They tend to just ask the lawyer what they want and then say “ok” to the request. A good marketing agency will provide you with valuable feedback as to what works, what doesn’t, and what the “right” things are to focus on. This leads into the second point, which is the importance of your Google business profile and why it is one of the best (and free) forms of marketing. Third, most marketing agencies will attempt to focus most, if not all, of your resources into digital marketing campaigns. In other words, they want to be a broker who sells you ad-space on the part of third parties such as Google. As I’ll explain, however, this leaves you owning no valuable assets at the end of the day, and it also drains your bank account – usually while making a profit for the marketing agency. Fourth, I’ll break down why blogging the right way is the best thing you can do for your financial future. Finally, it you’re not seeing your current clients as the best source of future business then you’ve got problems which marketing isn’t going to be able to help.
